ServiceNow Invests $40 Million in Indian Banking Software Firm BusinessNext

Key Points

  • ["ServiceNow invested $40 million in BusinessNext, valuing the Indian firm at $700 million and acquiring roughly 5% equity stake.","BusinessNext serves over 70 banks including India's Reserve Bank, State Bank of India, and HDFC Bank across multiple regions.","The partnership combines ServiceNow's workflow automation with BusinessNext's AI-driven banking platform to target financial institutions globally."]

The two companies plan to sell complementary services jointly to financial institutions. ServiceNow's strength lies in workflow automation and back-office systems, while BusinessNext specializes in customer-facing banking workflows. Both are building AI-driven capabilities into their combined offering.

Founded in 2002 and previously known as CRMNext until 2022, BusinessNext employs more than 1,300 people and has spent years developing what Singh describes as an "autonomous banking" platform. The company built AI into its core architecture rather than adding it later. Singh said the company "rewrote our stack to put that fundamentally at the core."

BusinessNext has raised more than $60 million in external funding and was last valued at $181 million in 2021, per Tracxn data. The deal reflects a significant increase in the company's valuation. Existing investors include Avataar Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, and Ascent Capital.

Kulmeet Bawa, ServiceNow's group vice president and managing director for India and SAARC, said India's financial services sector is undergoing transition: "India's financial services sector is at an inflection point—institutions are moving from digital experimentation to full-scale AI-led operations."

The investment arrives as enterprise software vendors face mounting pressure from customers questioning the value of traditional SaaS tools against emerging AI-native alternatives. For ServiceNow, this partnership extends its financial services footprint while strengthening its AI capabilities through a specialist in banking operations.

What This Means

BusinessNext's valuation jumping from $181 million in 2021 to $700 million suggests the Indian banking software market is attracting significant capital. If overseas revenue growth accelerates as Singh projects, BusinessNext could leverage ServiceNow's sales network to capture market share in global financial services before established competitors strengthen their banking AI capabilities.
